Dokolo Council Honours Late Former Councillor Odongo, Urges Family Unity

What the report says
Dokolo District Council has paid tribute to the late Hon. Odongo Alfred Obete, a former councillor for Adeknino Sub-county, following his death on August 18, 2026, at the age of 46. According to Dokolo Post, the council recognized his service on the district council from 2011 to 2016 and described him as a humble, peace-loving leader who contributed to local development.
The tribute was held during an emergency council meeting at the District Council Hall on Friday, August 21, where district leaders and councillors shared memories of Odongo’s work and character. Speaker Bonny Alilo said Odongo helped lay foundations for Adeknino Sub-county, while LCV Chairperson Peter Ogwang urged relatives and community leaders to protect his legacy and remain united during the mourning period. Other officials, including John Bosco Okello Okello and Joel Opota Okuma, praised him as a problem solver, team player and committed public servant.
The meeting also included a call for family unity, especially as Odongo left behind wives and six children. Emily Vivian Acan, the district female youth councillor, urged the family to avoid divisions and support the children. Councillor Okuk Edward proposed that a road in Adeknino be named after Odongo, a suggestion that was welcomed by council members. The reporting indicates the district sees his death as both a personal loss and a reminder of the role local leaders can play in community development.
