What the report says

Police in Dokolo District have arrested a 30-year-old woman, Akello Sharon, in connection with the death of her seven-year-old stepson in Bata Town Council, according to Dokolo Post. The body of the child, identified as Ajal Brian, was found in a grass-thatched house in Ongoceng Cell, Southern Ward.

North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema said the incident is believed to have happened on the night of August 16, 2026, though the exact time of death has not yet been determined. The report was made the following day by a resident, and police said information from a witness suggested Sharon had spent the night in the same hut as the child.

Police are treating the case as suspected murder by strangulation while investigations continue. A murder file was opened at Bata Police Station, and officers from the CID and Scene of Crime team visited and processed the scene. The body was taken to Dokolo Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem exam, and Sharon remains in custody as the file is prepared for review by the Resident State Attorney.

The case has drawn concern because it involves a young child and an alleged domestic killing. Police have asked relatives and community members to stay calm and allow the investigation to proceed without interference.
