Concern grows over Gen. Moses Ali’s health as family gathers at Nakasero Hospital

The Independent Uganda, citing Uganda Radio Network, reported on July 17, 2026, that concern is rising over the health of Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, who is admitted at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala. The report says the 87-year-old veteran politician and former Second Deputy Prime Minister has been receiving treatment at the private facility since the start of the week, based on sources familiar with the matter.

According to the report, members of Ali’s family met privately at the hospital on Friday morning, with several of his children arriving during the day, including some from outside Uganda. His son Ali Siraj, the Minister of State for Works, declined to give Uganda Radio Network an update after the meeting. The report also said one of Ali’s daughters, who had come from Sudan, indicated that his condition was poor but did not give details.

Government confirmed only that Ali remains under medical care. The Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Justine Kasule Lumumba, told journalists at the Government Media Centre that he was receiving treatment, but did not disclose the nature of the illness or his prognosis. The Independent noted that neither Nakasero Hospital nor the family had issued an official medical statement by Friday evening.

Ali is one of Uganda’s longest-serving political and military figures. He served in senior roles under Idi Amin, later led the Uganda National Rescue Front rebellion, and was integrated into the National Resistance Army after a 1986 peace agreement with President Yoweri Museveni’s government. He has held several Cabinet posts and remains MP for Adjumani West.
