The Independent Uganda reports that Equity Bank Uganda is set to host a virtual diaspora investment webinar on Saturday, 1 August 2026, aimed at helping Ugandans living abroad channel remittances into longer-term investments at home. The session is part of the bank’s Equity Diaspora Webinar Series, which focuses on financial planning, wealth creation and investment options for Ugandans outside the country.

According to the report, Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, is expected to participate and offer views on how diaspora investment can support Uganda’s economic transformation. Equity Bank says the discussion will look at ways money sent home can move beyond household support into areas such as business financing, commercial agriculture, real estate, manufacturing and other productive sectors.

The Independent cites remittances as a growing part of Uganda’s economy, reporting that inflows reached US$2.5 billion, about Shs9.3 trillion, in 2025 and represented roughly 3.8% of GDP. These funds are widely used for education, healthcare, housing and family expenses, but the bank argues that better financial advice, structured products and secure digital banking could help convert more of them into enterprise and asset-building investments.

The article also notes that Equity Bank Uganda is positioning itself beyond money transfer services, presenting its diaspora work as a link between Ugandans abroad and investment opportunities back home. The bank’s diaspora banking profile was recently recognized at the African Business Chamber African Business Awards 2026 in London, where it was named Corporate Business of the Year.
