ERA Sponsors Nationwide Blood Donation Drive to Support Uganda’s Health Facilities

What the report says
The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA), working with the Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS), sponsored a two-day blood donation campaign aimed at easing shortages in health facilities across Uganda. According to Watchdog Uganda, the exercise ran from 19 to 20 October 2026 and was conducted in Kampala, Gulu, Mbale and Mbarara.
The drive drew ERA staff, stakeholders in the electricity supply industry and members of the public. Together, they donated 83 units of blood. The collected blood is intended to support patients who need transfusions, including people affected by accidents, childbirth complications, surgery and other medical conditions. The report says the campaign was part of efforts to strengthen blood availability at a time when health facilities continue to face demand for safe supplies.
ERA said the initiative fit within its corporate social responsibility programme, which focuses on health, education and environmental protection. A company representative, identified as Diana Naisuna Nambi, said the Authority sees its role as extending beyond electricity regulation to community support. The article also notes that ERA has previously backed projects such as spring-well protection, tree planting and the Women in Energy programme.
More broadly, the campaign highlights the role public institutions can play in supporting voluntary blood donation and public health services. While 83 units is a meaningful contribution, the report emphasizes that the need for blood remains ongoing, making continued participation from institutions and the public important.
