Minsa Kabanda Questions Witness Credibility in Rubongoya Election Petition

What the report says
Kampala Central MP Minsa Kabanda says she is confident of keeping her parliamentary seat as she defends herself in an election petition filed by National Unity Platform secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya. According to Nile Post, Kabanda made the remarks after a High Court sitting in Kampala on Thursday, October 29, while contesting the evidence being presented against her.
Kabanda focused much of her criticism on the witnesses called in the case, arguing that some had previously supported other candidates and that this raised doubts about their motives and reliability. She also claimed some testimony appeared rehearsed and became inconsistent under cross-examination. The MP insisted that these issues weaken the petition against her.
Rubongoya is challenging Kabanda’s election as Kampala Central MP after the January 15, 2026 parliamentary vote. The Electoral Commission declared Kabanda the winner with 22,280 votes against Rubongoya’s 18,211, a margin of 4,069 votes. His petition alleges electoral irregularities including discrepancies in results, multiple voting, ballot stuffing and voter intimidation, although those claims have not yet been determined by the court.
The case remains before the High Court in Kampala, with proceedings expected to continue on Friday, October 30. The dispute is significant because it could affect representation for Kampala Central and test the court’s handling of contested election evidence.
