Bezos consortium bought almost 40% of Liverpool

What the report says
A consortium that includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has agreed to buy just under 40% of Liverpool from Fenway Sports Group, according to BBC Sport Football. The club’s owner said it had reached a definitive agreement for what it described as a strategic minority investment, with the stake reported at about 38%, slightly above earlier estimates of roughly one-third.
The group is called 1892 Holdings, a reference to Liverpool’s founding year, and is led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia. The consortium also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. BBC Sport reported that Bhatia is set to become Liverpool’s vice-chairman and join an expanded board, subject to regulatory approval.
The report said the arrangement also gives the investors an option to seek a controlling stake within the next 12 months, although that is not a formal obligation. The deal is understood to value Liverpool at between £5bn and £6bn. If completed as expected, it would mark a significant change in the club’s ownership structure while leaving FSG in control for now.
More broadly, the move reflects continued major investment interest in Premier League clubs, where minority stakes and future buyout options have become increasingly common. BBC Sport noted that Bhatia recently stepped down from his role at Queens Park Rangers after many years as a co-owner and director.
