What the report says

Nebbi Providence Vocational School has graduated 289 students in five vocational fields, in a ceremony held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the school in Afere Cell, Thatha Ward, Nebbi Municipality. According to Nile Post, the graduates received National Certificates through the Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board, with training completed in carpentry and joinery, fashion and design, catering, hairdressing and cosmetology, and motor vehicle mechanics.

The event brought together education officials, local leaders, clergy, parents and members of the Daughters of Providence Sisters, who founded the school in 2014 in partnership with Nebbi Catholic Diocese. School principal Sr Emmanuela Loice said the institution was created to support vulnerable young people through practical training and has grown as demand for skills education rises. She also encouraged parents to consider vocational education for children finishing primary and secondary school.

UVTAB deputy executive secretary Dr Wilfred Nahamya said vocational reforms are intended to improve employability and help reduce youth unemployment by recognising both formal and informal skills. Nebbi Municipality Mayor Jackline Opar and Resident District Commissioner Robert Abak also backed vocational training as a route to self-reliance, especially for young women and in a district without a government-aided vocational school.

The school said graduates also received start-up kits, such as sewing machines for tailoring students, to help them begin work. One graduate described how fee support allowed her to complete training, underscoring the role such schools can play for learners from low-income households.
