What the report says

Genesis Junior School in Lira City has used a community outreach programme to teach Primary Seven learners compassion, responsibility and practical life skills, according to Dokolo Post. On Friday, October 23, 2026, the school’s P7 candidates, together with administrators and teachers, visited Ngetta Babies Home and later City Gate Mixed Farm in Amuca as part of an annual effort to combine classroom learning with practical experience.

At Ngetta Babies Home, the group donated supplies such as sugar and soap to support care for the children there. School director Judith Ejon said the visit was meant to help learners understand the needs of vulnerable children and to build values of empathy, love and social responsibility. She also framed the school’s approach as holistic education, linking academic work with moral formation, discipline and service.

The farm visit focused on agriculture and enterprise. Learners were introduced to poultry management, animal care and crop production through the farm’s four-hectare learning module. Ejon said the aim was to give pupils knowledge they could use at home and potentially in future livelihoods.

A social worker at Ngetta Babies Home, Naturinda Fortunate, thanked the school for its continued support and encouragement. The article also notes that Genesis Junior School says it serves learners from Baby Class to Primary Seven and has sought to expand practical skills among both pupils and teachers. More broadly, such school-community programmes are often used in Uganda to build civic awareness and life skills alongside exam preparation.
