What the report says

Antara, carrying a Business Wire/AETOSWire press release dated July 22, 2026, reported that Beyond2020, an initiative launched by the Zayed Sustainability Prize, has completed a healthcare energy deployment in Karnataka, southwestern India. The project involves six solar-powered health facilities intended to improve access to dependable healthcare for more than 200,000 people in rural communities where electricity supply can be limited.

According to the release, the facilities were implemented by SELCO Foundation, an India-based nonprofit and 2018 Zayed Sustainability Prize winner. The centres use solar photovoltaic systems rated between two and 15 kilowatts at peak sunlight, supported by off-grid systems and lithium-ion batteries described as able to provide about 1.5 to two days of backup power. The equipment includes energy-efficient tools for maternal and neonatal care, vaccine delivery, diagnostics, telemedicine and remote consultations.

The publisher reported that SELCO Foundation also worked with the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement to deploy a mobile health clinic serving remote communities. The release framed the effort as a response to infrastructure and energy-access barriers that can make rural healthcare harder to deliver, including the operation of medical devices, vaccine storage and diagnostics.

Beyond2020’s partners include the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, BNP Paribas, Mubadala Energy, Masdar and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank. The initiative says it has now carried out 19 deployments across energy, health, water and food-related solutions in countries including India, with Colombia identified as the next location. The Zayed Sustainability Prize is a UAE award focused on sustainability-related innovation.
