Wisconsin Democratic primary debate for governor - WISN

What the report says
WISN 12 reported that five Democratic candidates for Wisconsin governor met for an hour-long primary debate in Milwaukee, two weeks before voters choose the party’s nominee. The debate was held at Marquette University and moderated by WISN 12’s Matt Smith and Gerron Jordan.
The candidates on stage were Mandela Barnes, Joel Brennan, David Crowley, Francesca Hong and Kelda Roys. According to WISN, early questions pressed individual candidates on electability, political alignment and polling strength, including whether Crowley represented the Democratic establishment, whether Hong fully supported the Democratic Socialists of America platform, whether Barnes could win statewide after a previous race, and whether Brennan and Roys could overcome low polling.
The debate covered several major state issues, including a Madison police shooting and police funding, a failed tax relief agreement, Wisconsin’s reported $2.5 billion tax surplus, proposals affecting higher-income taxpayers, property tax relief, private school vouchers in Milwaukee, the growth of data centers, and how Democrats would work with Republicans. Closing statements were also part of the program.
WISN also included a post-debate statement from Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany, who characterized the Democratic field as moving left and contrasted that with his campaign message on taxes, public safety, schools and limited government. The event matters because it offered voters a side-by-side look at the Democratic contenders shortly before the primary, highlighting both policy differences and the arguments candidates are making about who is best positioned to win statewide.
