NBC4 Washington, citing authorities and NBC News, reported that Mia Bieniemy, wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was shot and seriously injured Sunday night at a townhouse in Ashburn, Virginia. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said first responders were called around 7:30 p.m. to the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in the One Loudoun area. NBC4 reported that property records list Eric and Mia Bieniemy as owners of the home.

Authorities arrested the couple’s son, 27-year-old Elijah Zion Bieniemy of Ashburn, according to the report. He faces charges including malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and firing a gun inside a dwelling, and is being held without bond. A criminal complaint cited by NBC4 said Mia Bieniemy was shot twice in the upper body with a .22-caliber gun, had surgery, and was in stable condition, with part of a projectile still lodged in her body.

NBC4 reported that investigators had not publicly described what they believe preceded the shooting. Neighbors told the station they saw one of the Bieniemys’ sons taken from the home in handcuffs, and a nearby doorbell camera showed a person being carried by officers. The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains active and asked anyone with information to contact investigators or Loudoun County Crime Solvers.

The case draws wider attention because of Eric Bieniemy’s NFL profile. He was Kansas City’s offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2022, spent the 2023 season with the Washington Commanders, and rejoined the Chiefs this year. The Chiefs told NBC4 they were aware of the incident and declined further comment out of respect for the family’s privacy.
