Uganda sweeps Africa Aquatics Zone 3 swimming championship

What the report says
Team Uganda won the 11th Africa Aquatics Zone III swimming championship, according to The Independent Uganda. The five-day meet ran from 21 to 25 October at Kampala International School of Uganda in Bukoto, with the final open-water swimming segment held at Entebbe Sailing Club. Uganda entered swimmers across all categories, including Masters, and finished with the largest medal haul among the seven participating countries.
The article says Uganda led the combined team standings with 3,940 points. Kenya placed second with 2,976 points, while Tanzania finished third on 2,737. Other nations in the zone event included Rwanda, Burundi, Djibouti and Somalia. The report also notes that Uganda has dominated the zone for the past five editions of the championship.
Beyond the overall team result, the competition featured individual races involving athletes from across the region. The open swimming event was won by Kenya, providing a separate highlight on the final day. Tanzania is set to host next year’s edition, according to the report.
The championship matters because it is a key regional competition for East and Central African swimming programs and a measure of progress for national federations. The event was backed by a range of sponsors and sports bodies, including World Aquatics, the Uganda Olympic Committee and the National Council of Sports, underscoring its role in regional development of the sport.
