What the report says

CNN reports that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s latest trip to Washington is expected to be less predictable than his previous meetings with US President Donald Trump. The outlet says Netanyahu arrived for what would be his seventh US visit since Trump returned to office, at a time when the relationship between the two leaders has become more visibly tense than during earlier, highly staged displays of alliance unity.

According to CNN, the strain follows the Iran war, which began with close US-Israeli coordination but later exposed different priorities. Netanyahu is expected to raise new Israeli intelligence about Iran’s nuclear and military rebuilding, while Trump has signaled frustration with continued pressure to stay engaged. CNN cites US and Israeli sources saying Netanyahu sought a White House invitation for weeks, while some White House officials viewed Israeli media leaks as an attempt to force a meeting.

The agenda is broader than Iran. CNN reports that Trump’s push to reduce fighting involving Israel in Lebanon, Gaza and Syria has caused further friction, with Netanyahu telling his security cabinet he intends to resist some withdrawal demands. Other points of concern for Israel include possible US F-35 sales to Turkey and a US-Saudi civil nuclear agreement, both of which Israeli officials fear could affect Israel’s military advantage or regional security.

The meeting also carries political weight. Netanyahu faces an Israeli election in October, and CNN says he is seeking assurances on defense cooperation, regional normalization and a future US-Israel security pact. Trump, meanwhile, appears aware that his support could matter to Netanyahu while maintaining that major US decisions, including arms sales, remain his own.
