West Ham sack head coach Nuno Espirito Santo

What the report says
West Ham United have dismissed head coach Nuno Espirito Santo after a poor start to their Championship campaign, according to BBC Sport Football. Nuno, who had been in charge since September 2025, leaves the club after overseeing last season’s relegation from the Premier League.
BBC Sport reported that West Ham were widely expected to challenge for automatic promotion, but they are currently eighth in the table and six points behind leaders Middlesbrough. Their recent form has added pressure, with only two wins in the last six matches and consecutive home defeats against Southampton and West Bromwich Albion.
Assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa have also departed. West Ham said in a statement that a review of the opening weeks of the season led the board to decide a change was needed to keep the club’s objectives on track. The club added that it had already begun the search for a new head coach.
Mark Noble, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville will take interim charge for Wednesday night’s Championship trip to Cardiff City. The decision underlines the urgency around West Ham’s promotion bid and the expectation placed on a side that began the season among the favourites.
