The claims were made by film producer Juan Jose Lopez Ordonez, who told Mexican outlet TV Notas that he was forced into a vehicle at gunpoint in Mexico City’s Polanco district in 2024 and that the matter involved people connected to Alvarez’s former father-in-law.

Ordonez said Alvarez was not directly present at the alleged kidnapping but was aware of the plot. He also claimed he had been hired to make a documentary about Alvarez’s life and was owed payment for that work. BBC Sport reported that Alvarez responded on social media, rejecting the allegation and saying he was considering legal action.

In his statement, Alvarez said attempts to associate his name with the events were unfounded and accused some media coverage of chasing attention rather than accuracy. The midfielder, who captained Mexico at the 2026 World Cup and joined West Ham from Ajax in 2023, has made 74 appearances for the club and has featured once so far this season.
