What the report says

West Africa’s regional stock market, the BRVM, continued its 2026 advance in the week ended September 11, reaching a new high on the Composite Index at 555.48 points, according to Daba Finance in a report distributed by AllAfrica. The BRVM 30, Prestige and Principal indices also posted weekly gains, while equity market capitalization rose to XOF 21.42 trillion.

The article said trading activity increased in share volume, but the value of transactions eased from the previous week. Sonatel Senegal remained the most traded stock for a third straight week, with Société Générale Côte d’Ivoire and BIIC Benin also among the most active names. Market breadth was mixed, however, as more stocks declined than advanced, even as the headline index set a record.

Among individual movers, BOA Mali, Orange Côte d’Ivoire and Vivo Energy Côte d’Ivoire posted notable gains. On the downside, SAPH Côte d’Ivoire fell sharply after reporting a steep drop in first-half net profit, while SAFCA and NEI-CEDA also lost ground. The report also noted that bond market capitalization edged lower, even as trading in sovereign debt remained concentrated in a Senegalese bond.

The update suggests the BRVM rally remains broad enough to lift major indices, but also increasingly selective, with liquidity and performance concentrated in a few large or actively traded companies. That may matter for investors watching whether the market’s gains can be sustained by company earnings rather than momentum alone.
