US strikes hit Iran for seventh consecutive night

What the report says
BBC World News reports that the US military has launched strikes on Iran for a seventh straight night after President Donald Trump said a temporary ceasefire had collapsed. US Central Command said the latest operation targeted surveillance sites, logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage and maritime capabilities, using aircraft, drones, warships and other assets. Iranian state media reported explosions in Yazd, Qeshm island and Bandar Abbas, while BBC Persian verified footage showing damage near the Shahid Mirzaei tunnels in Hormozgan province.
Iran said it retaliated against US allies in the region, including Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan. Kuwait reported damage to a power plant, a water distillation plant and an oil facility, with injuries, while Jordan said it intercepted 10 Iranian missiles. Centcom said two US service members were killed and one was missing after Iranian attacks in Jordan on Friday; it also said four personnel evacuated for treatment had been discharged. The Gulf Cooperation Council condemned the attacks as a serious escalation and accused Tehran of targeting civilian infrastructure.
The renewed fighting follows a mid-June agreement intended to pause the war and allow talks on a permanent settlement. BBC reported that negotiations made little progress before Trump declared the deal over on 8 July. Iran’s deputy foreign minister said Tehran had suspended its obligations after what it called US aggression, while Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei accused Washington of breaking its commitments.
The conflict is affecting a strategically vital area. Iran has declared the Strait of Hormuz closed, while the US has reimposed a blockade of Iranian ports. The strait is a major route for global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, making any prolonged disruption significant for regional security and energy markets.
