The Associated Press reported that the U.S. military said early Thursday it had finished what it called a “heavy wave of strikes against Iran,” following an Iranian missile attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, a hub used by U.S. forces. U.S. Central Command said the operation lasted more than two hours and hit dozens of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets, including command sites, missile and drone facilities, and coastal defense and surveillance positions.

The strikes followed a broader escalation across the region. AP reported that Jordan’s military said it intercepted and destroyed five Iranian missiles launched Tuesday. Separately, British maritime security firm Ambrey said drone strikes set fires on two natural gas vessels at Egypt’s Damietta port, though responsibility was not immediately clear and no injuries were reported.

The developments raised fears of a wider conflict after a period of relative calm. AP said President Donald Trump had vowed to strike Iran “very hard,” while Saudi officials also conveyed interest in de-escalation and renewed negotiations.
