Al Jazeera reported that the United States carried out overnight strikes on dozens of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iran, citing US Central Command. CENTCOM said the attacks hit military command centres, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defence positions, and maritime assets, but did not provide exact locations. The strikes followed President Donald Trump’s warning that Iran would be hit after the IRGC launched ballistic missiles at a US base in Jordan on Wednesday.

According to Iranian state and semi-official media cited by Al Jazeera, explosions were reported across southern Iran, including on Qeshm and Kish islands and in Bushehr, Khuzestan, Hormozgan and Fars provinces. Iranian outlets said a residential building in Qeshm was struck, killing a couple and their two-year-old child and wounding two other children. Rescue work was reported to be continuing for people believed trapped under rubble. Explosions were also reported in Bushehr province, where Iran’s only nuclear power plant is located, though no casualties were reported there.

The IRGC pledged retaliation, saying through Iranian media that the “aggressor” would be punished. Jordan’s military said its air defences intercepted five missiles launched from Iran toward Jordanian territory, while Kuwait’s Defence Ministry said one worker was killed in an Iranian attack on a building belonging to a Chinese company in northern Kuwait. Al Jazeera also reported that Egypt said a drone caused a fire that damaged two ships at Damietta port, though no party had claimed responsibility.

The developments point to a widening regional confrontation involving Iran, the United States and Gulf states. Al Jazeera’s reporting noted recent attacks linked to the conflict in Iraq, the Red Sea and the Caspian Sea, and cited analysts warning that repeated exchanges could become a sustained military pattern even as diplomatic efforts continue.
