Ukrainian drone attacks on Russia kill at least 8, wound dozens

Al Jazeera reported that Ukrainian drone attacks in western Russia killed at least eight people and injured dozens on Saturday, citing Russian regional officials. Tambov Governor Evgeniy Pervyshov said a strike in Kotovsk hit a logistics warehouse belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer, killing seven night-shift workers and wounding 25 others, including several in serious or critical condition. He also said 28 drones were intercepted.

In the Moscow region, Governor Andrei Vorobyov said another Wildberries warehouse in Elektrostal was hit, leaving at least one person dead and 37 injured. He also reported that a separate drone strike caused a fire at an oil depot in Noginsk and injured two people. Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Moscow described the toll as the highest from Ukrainian attacks inside Russia in three years.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on social media that the two Wildberries sites were important logistics facilities connected to supplies of sanctioned components for drone and navigation-equipment production. He also said Ukrainian medium-range strikes had reached targets in the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea. Al Jazeera framed the attacks as part of Ukraine’s broader effort to disrupt Russian energy and military supply chains as the war continues into its fifth year.

The exchanges also included Russian attacks on Ukraine. Al Jazeera cited Odesa regional Governor Oleh Kipper as saying a major Russian strike on port infrastructure in Odesa killed at least one person, wounded three and damaged facilities, including a vessel flying the Antigua and Barbuda flag.
