What the report says

Russia and Ukraine continued trading drone attacks overnight, with Al Jazeera reporting that the strikes killed civilians on both sides and injured more than 20 others. The fighting included repeated waves of drones and hit areas in Ukraine, western Russia and occupied Crimea, underscoring how the war continues to widen beyond the frontline after more than four years.

According to the report, Russia said Ukrainian strikes killed four people in the city of Nizhnekamsk in Tatarstan, while Ukrainian officials said Russian attacks injured at least nine people in Odesa. The Russian Defence Ministry said it intercepted 389 Ukrainian drones in the night, while Ukraine’s General Staff said Russia launched 863 drones at Ukrainian territory in the past 24 hours.

The report also highlighted strikes close to the Polish border, where Russian drones reportedly hit near the Dorohusk-Yahodyn crossing and a Warsaw-bound train in Ukraine. Polish border guards said the crossing briefly stopped operating before resuming. Ukrainian and Russian officials also said Russian attacks targeted logistics and energy sites in western Ukraine, an area important for trade and military supplies arriving through neighboring EU states.

The developments come as diplomatic efforts remain stalled, although Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said three-way talks involving the US, Russia and Ukraine could still be possible in the coming months, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he is open to meeting Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit in Miami.
