Uganda Secure Place in Next Round of Cricket World Cup Qualifiers

What the report says
Uganda’s men’s cricket team, the Cricket Cranes, have moved into the next stage of the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup qualification process after finishing second in Challenge League B. According to Nile Post, the team’s progress was confirmed even though they lost their final match to Bahrain in Dar es Salaam, with Italy taking top spot in the six-team group and also advancing. Uganda ended the league phase on 22 points, ahead of Hong Kong, China, which finished third.
The final match was a narrow defeat for Uganda. After choosing to bat first at the NTS Ground at the University of Dar es Salaam Sports Complex, they were dismissed for 204 in 48.1 overs. Raghav Dhawan scored 80 and captain Riazat Ali Shah made 61, but the lower order could not add much late on. Bahrain then chased the target for six wickets, reaching 209 in 49.4 overs with Fiaz Ahmed unbeaten on 78 and support from Asif Ali and Muhammad Safdar.
The report said Uganda’s bowlers kept the contest close, with Alpesh Ramjani and Joseph Baguma taking two wickets each. It also noted that missed fielding chances affected Uganda’s chances of defending the total. While the result ended their Challenge League B campaign on a disappointing note, the bigger outcome was qualification for the play-off round, which brings the team closer to a possible World Cup berth.
The article added that Uganda’s coaches want the side to improve consistency ahead of tougher opposition in the next phase.
