Leeds sign Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach

What the report says
Leeds United have completed the signing of Swiss defender Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach in a deal BBC Sport says is worth £8.5m. The 29-year-old has agreed a three-year contract at Elland Road and becomes the club’s fourth addition of the summer transfer window.
BBC Sport reported that the fee includes an initial £6.8m payment, with up to £1.7m in add-ons. Elvedi spent 11 years at Monchengladbach, making 364 appearances, and has 73 caps for Switzerland. He also played every minute of his country’s run to the World Cup quarter-finals, underlining the experience Leeds are adding to their squad.
The move reunites Elvedi with Leeds manager Daniel Farke, who previously coached Monchengladbach in the 2022-23 season. Elvedi said that relationship was an important factor in his decision and that he expects to keep learning from Farke. In broader squad changes, BBC Sport noted that Sebastiaan Bornauw has left for Hamburg on loan, while striker Joel Piroe moved to West Ham on a season-long loan earlier on Wednesday.
Leeds are preparing to start their Premier League season away to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, making the timing of the signing significant as they continue to reshape the squad before the campaign begins.
