Uganda: SDA Church Directs Members to Observe Monthly Cleaning Day

What the report says
The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Uganda has told members to join the government’s National Cleaning Day on the last Sunday of each month, while following official movement guidance. The instruction was delivered by Church President Samuel Kajoba during a camp meeting in Wakiso Area at City Secondary School in Senge, where more than 1,000 Adventists were said to be attending, according to Nile Post via AllAfrica.
Kajoba said church leaders had raised concerns with government officials about the original timing of the exercise because it overlapped with the Adventist Sabbath, which runs from Friday evening to Saturday evening. He said the church and government later agreed that Adventists would clean on Sundays instead, and he urged members to respect the revised arrangement.
He also asked members to observe the 10:00 a.m. movement rule referenced in the report so they would avoid disputes with security personnel during the monthly activity. The article said the church had discussed the matter with senior officials, including the prime minister, and had received assurances that Adventist religious practices would be respected.
Beyond the cleaning directive, the camp meeting included spiritual messages and community activities such as a medical camp and blood donation drives. The report presents the decision as part of the church’s effort to balance civic participation with its Sabbath observance and broader commitment to orderly relations with authorities.
