Uganda’s golf breakthrough opens new window for tourism, business and investment

What the report says
Uganda is set for a higher profile in international golf after the Pearl of Africa Golf Series was awarded Official World Golf Ranking status under the Sunshine Development & BET Tour, according to The Independent Uganda. The publication says the event will be the first professional golf tournament in the country to receive this recognition, marking a step up from a local competition to one with global ranking significance.
The 2026 edition of the series is expected to be staged in Entebbe in September and to draw Ugandan players as well as competitors from outside the country. The report says the new status could help attract more regional and international golfers, while also giving Ugandan players a chance to earn wider recognition through ranked competition.
Beyond sport, The Independent Uganda frames the development as an opportunity for tourism, hospitality, transport, retail and related services. It says visiting players, sponsors and fans can increase demand for accommodation, food and travel, and help showcase Uganda’s tourism offering and business environment to a broader audience.
The article also notes support from Exim Bank Uganda and other partners, presenting the tournament as an example of how public and private sector backing can help sports events contribute to economic activity. More broadly, the piece places the golf series within Uganda’s effort to position itself as a destination for international events.
