UAE extradites alleged international crime boss Daniel Kinahan to Ireland

What the report says
The United Arab Emirates has extradited Daniel Kinahan to Ireland, where the alleged Irish cartel figure is expected to appear in Dublin’s Special Criminal Court on charges tied to running a transnational criminal organisation. Al Jazeera reported that Kinahan left Dubai on an Irish government jet and was due in court later on Sunday, following a final decision from the Dubai Court of Cassation and action under the UAE-Ireland extradition treaty.
Kinahan, 49, was arrested in Dubai in April on an Irish warrant for alleged serious organised crime offences. According to a joint statement quoted by Al Jazeera, Irish and Emirati authorities said he is accused of leading an organised crime group, murder and narcotics trafficking. The report also noted that he had lived openly in Dubai for about a decade before his arrest.
The extradition comes after years of international scrutiny of the Kinahan Organised Crime Group, which US and European authorities have linked to drug trafficking, money laundering, weapons trafficking and murder. The United States designated Kinahan and relatives in 2022 and offered a reward for information leading to arrests. Al Jazeera said the group has been described as one of the world’s largest international crime networks and has been linked by authorities to other criminal organisations.
Irish media reported a major security operation ahead of his arrival, and he is expected to be transferred to high-security Portlaoise Prison after court proceedings. The move is significant because it signals closer cooperation between the UAE and Ireland in pursuing suspects accused of major cross-border organised crime.
