Al Jazeera reported that US President Donald Trump threatened a major escalation against Iran on July 29 after renewed attacks on US military sites in the Middle East. In a Fox News interview relayed by reporter Trey Yingst, Trump used profane language and said the United States would strike Iran forcefully, warning that Tehran would face a “beating.”

The remarks followed Iran’s claim that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had targeted an airbase and a US Central Command facility in Jordan on Tuesday. CENTCOM described the episode as an attempted surprise attack and said all missiles were intercepted, with US forces remaining on alert. Al Jazeera reported that the strike came after a five-day pause in Iranian attacks and amid a wider conflict that began in February.

The latest exchange also came shortly after Trump met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. Netanyahu called the meeting excellent and said the two leaders shared the goal of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The White House described the meeting as positive and productive. Al Jazeera noted that Israel has pushed to continue the war and opposed any deal allowing Iran to maintain its nuclear programme, while Tehran says the programme is civilian.

The report said the renewed threats risk undermining recent attempts at de-escalation, including a temporary US pause in strikes and an earlier ceasefire arrangement that collapsed in July. Al Jazeera also cited concerns over US casualties, air defence interceptor supplies, oil-market pressures linked to the Strait of Hormuz, and criticism from legal experts and rights groups over possible attacks on civilian infrastructure.
