The meeting is being framed as an effort to ease visible tensions between the allies while both face political pressure at home.

According to the report, Trump signaled irritation ahead of the talks over reports that Netanyahu planned to raise Israeli intelligence about Iranian activity at Pickaxe Mountain, described as a possible nuclear site. Trump told Fox News he already knew what was happening there, suggested it was “not a big problem,” and said Netanyahu wanted him to remain engaged. Netanyahu, meanwhile, has said he wants to hear Trump’s thinking on Iran and has argued that Tehran’s nuclear program must be ended.

A White House official cited by AP said the leaders also planned to discuss a U.S.-Israel framework agreement with Lebanon related to the Israel-Hezbollah war and efforts to expand the Abraham Accords. The report said Israel has recently taken steps in Lebanon and Gaza that could allow other forces to operate in limited areas, including a pilot deployment involving the Lebanese army and a potential international stabilization force in part of southern Gaza.

The meeting matters because U.S.-Israel coordination is under strain over Iran, Gaza and Lebanon. AP noted that Trump is under pressure to end a costly and unpopular conflict, while Netanyahu faces reelection and criticism over his handling of ties with Washington. The report also pointed to declining U.S. public support for Israel, particularly linked to the war in Gaza.
