What the report says

Britain and France are set to lead a multinational military exercise in Poland to rehearse how a European force could deploy to Ukraine if a peace deal is reached, according to BBC World News. The drill, called Exercise Koalicja, is scheduled for 9-22 November and will involve about 2,800 to 3,000 personnel from 12 European countries, with land, sea and air elements included.

The BBC said the exercise is meant to test how troops could be moved, protected and supplied, as well as how command-and-control arrangements would work across different militaries. UK officials described it as part of planning for a future reassurance force for Ukraine. The reported British contribution includes 300 troops and RAF Typhoons, while Turkey is to lead the maritime element focused on mine clearance and helping reopen Black Sea trade routes.

Western officials stressed that any force sent to Ukraine would not take part in offensive operations, peacekeeping or ceasefire monitoring, and would not operate under Nato command or on the front line. They said the mission would instead aim to reassure Ukraine and support the rebuilding of its armed forces.

The report notes that the United States has taken part in discussions but is not contributing troops. It also highlights Russian opposition to foreign forces in Ukraine. More broadly, the exercise reflects continued European preparation for post-war security arrangements, even though major questions remain about the final size, mandate and rules of any actual deployment.
