Trump approval rating near record low on eve of US midterm elections: Poll

What the report says
Reuters/Ipsos polling reported by Al Jazeera shows US President Donald Trump with a 32 percent approval rating ahead of the Nov. 3, 2026 midterm elections, leaving him near a record low. The result was only slightly higher than the 31 percent figure reported two weeks earlier, underscoring persistent dissatisfaction with his handling of the presidency.
The poll also points to a broader political challenge for Republicans. In a generic congressional matchup, 46 percent of respondents said they would back a Democrat, compared with 38 percent for a Republican. Trump is not on the ballot, but he has framed the elections as a test of his agenda and warned that losses could increase the risk of impeachment efforts by Democrats.
Al Jazeera said Trump’s approval has trended downward in recent months, with public concern shaped in part by economic pressure tied to the US-Israel war on Iran, which has affected fuel prices and inflation worries. The president spent much of the final campaign stretch boosting Republican candidates as they tried to keep control of the House and Senate.
Trump closed his campaign appearance in Washington, DC, with remarks centered on his plans for capital improvements, including a proposed arch and the renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. He acknowledged that midterms often favor the party outside the White House, saying his side had made a strong effort.
