The Marlins Are Reeling At The Worst Possible Time - MLB Trade Rumors

What the report says
MLB Trade Rumors reports that the Miami Marlins’ season has shifted sharply at a critical point before the Aug. 3 trade deadline. After rising to 10 games over .500 on July 9 and positioning themselves near the top of the NL Wild Card race, Miami has lost 12 straight games, described by MLBTR as the longest skid in franchise history. The losing streak followed an earlier report from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic that the club intended to keep Sandy Alcantara and add at the deadline unless the team collapsed.
According to MLBTR, the downturn has been driven in part by a stalled offense. Miami has scored 25 runs since the All-Star break, with Griffin Conine identified as the only regular producing above league-average levels over the past two weeks. The Marlins have been swept by the Guardians, Brewers, Astros and Padres, and now face a difficult series against the Phillies before visiting the Mets.
The slide has changed Miami’s deadline outlook. MLBTR notes that the Marlins have fallen to fourth in the NL East and remain three games out of a Wild Card spot, but with several teams ahead of them. Public playoff odds cited by the site from FanGraphs, Baseball Reference and Baseball Prospectus have dropped into the 8-12% range.
The largest question is whether Miami would consider trading Alcantara. MLBTR describes him as controllable through a $21 million club option for 2027 and a potentially attractive target because of his workload, recent form and postseason fit. The site cautions that moving him would not be simple given his status with the franchise, but says another poor week could push the Marlins away from buying and toward selling.
