What the report says

Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) and Vodacom Tanzania have announced a partnership to train more than 26,000 retailers across the country in business, financial and digital skills. According to Daily News via AllAfrica, the effort is meant to help small retailers improve efficiency, profitability and resilience as they adapt to a more digital economy.

The companies have signed a two-year memorandum of understanding to run the Retailer Development Programme, branded “Growing Innovatively Together” (GRIT). The program will draw on TBL’s retailer network and Vodacom’s connectivity, mobile money and digital services expertise. It is expected to cover topics such as business management, cash-flow and stock control, sales and marketing, customer service, entrepreneurship, responsible retailing and digital literacy.

TBL’s legal and corporate affairs director, Neema Temba, said the initiative is intended to strengthen retailers’ ability to expand and take advantage of new opportunities. Vodacom Business Director Nguvu Kamando said the collaboration shows how technology can support small businesses with productivity and access to financial services. The first training session is scheduled for September 16 in Mwanza.

The article says the program will use both in-person and digital training, and that the two companies will monitor and evaluate its progress together. More broadly, the initiative fits into wider efforts in Tanzania to support entrepreneurship, financial inclusion and business formalization, though the report does not provide results yet.
