What the report says

Tanzania and Angola have agreed to deepen transport and trade cooperation through plans to link their railway systems and launch direct flights between Dar es Salaam and Luanda, according to Daily News via AllAfrica. The announcement was made on October 29, 2026, in Dar es Salaam after talks at State House between Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Angolan President João Lourenço, who was in Tanzania for a three-day official visit.

The railway part of the plan would involve rehabilitation of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) line on the Tanzanian side and Angola’s Benguela Railway. The two corridors would be connected through the Lobito Corridor and Tanzania’s Central Corridor, which reaches the Port of Dar es Salaam. The reported goal is to improve cargo movement and make trade routes between the two countries and the wider region more efficient.

The countries also signed an Air Services Agreement that is intended to provide the basis for direct passenger flights between the two capitals. The air link, along with the rail connection, is expected to support movement of people and goods and to encourage trade, investment and tourism. In broader regional terms, the project reflects efforts to strengthen east-west transport links across southern and central Africa.
