Tanzania: Singida Pushes Results-Based Nutrition Budget

What the report says
Singida’s Regional Nutrition Committee has called for the 2026/27 budget to be designed around measurable nutrition results, according to Daily News, as distributed by AllAfrica. The meeting took place at the Regional Commissioner’s Office in Singida and was chaired by Regional Administrative Secretary Dr Fatuma Mganga.
Dr Mganga said nutrition should be treated as a cross-cutting development issue rather than a health-sector task alone, and urged the government and development partners to give it higher priority in the next financial year. She argued that progress against malnutrition will depend on deliberate planning and financing, not general commitments.
The committee said the budget should support implementation of the Integrated Nutrition Plan through more funding for monitoring malnourished children, access to nutritional supplements, community education, and maternal and child nutrition services at ward and village level. It also urged local authorities to set aside resources for school nutrition campaigns and to improve coordination among health, education and agriculture sectors.
The article said Singida has reduced child stunting from 29 percent to 25.7 percent, but that the level remains a concern. Committee members said a results-based approach could help reduce illness linked to malnutrition, improve productivity and support broader social and economic development in the region.
