Tanzania’s government says it plans to review more than 1,000 laws in an effort to modernize the country’s regulatory environment for artificial intelligence, digital commerce and technology-led investment. The announcement, reported by Tanzania Daily News via AllAfrica, was made in Dar es Salaam and comes as officials seek to make the economy more competitive and more attractive to investors.

According to the report, the review would focus on rules covering digital financial transactions, e-commerce, company law and public-private partnerships. Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs Juma Homera said the goal is to bring legislation in line with fast-changing technology and business practices, so that outdated rules do not slow innovation or discourage investment in new sectors.

Homera said the reforms are part of a wider push linked to Tanzania’s Vision 2050, under which the private sector is expected to play a major role in delivering development goals. He also pointed to the need for stronger digital skills and artificial intelligence capacity, alongside legal changes, so that businesses and workers can adapt to the digital economy.

In broader terms, the move reflects a growing trend across Africa and elsewhere to update legal frameworks for online services, digital payments and emerging technologies. The report suggests Tanzania hopes clearer, more predictable rules will improve investor confidence, support business efficiency and strengthen participation by technology companies and long-term investors.
