Sudan: Sudan Public Remain Frustrated By Bankak App Glitches Despite Update

What the report says
Customers in Sudan are still reporting serious problems with Bankak, the Bank of Khartoum’s banking app, even after the lender released an updated Android version aimed at fixing technical faults. The report, published by Dabanga and distributed by AllAfrica, says the app remains the country’s most widely used banking service, with more than 10 million subscribers, and that its outages have disrupted everyday payments for people in Khartoum, Port Sudan and elsewhere.
According to the article, users have faced failed transfers, delayed notifications and cases where the app would not open or would freeze. That has left some unable to pay for goods or access essentials, while traders have sometimes refused payments because transactions did not go through. Several customers said the update did not noticeably improve performance. The bank did not specify which bugs were fixed or which services had been restored.
The piece also places the problem in a wider context: Sudan’s digital payments have become heavily dependent on one platform, creating what experts described as a single point of failure. It notes that other banks operate apps such as Fawry, O-Cash and Sahel, but these remain secondary. A technology consultant quoted in the report urged stronger incident management, clearer public communication and better interoperability between banking platforms so a failure in one app would not halt routine commerce.
