Sudan: Salva Kiir Discusses Sudan War and Peace Efforts With Minawi

What the report says
President of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit met with Minni Arko Minawi, the Darfur region governor, in Juba on Monday to discuss Sudan’s war, humanitarian crisis and broader political and security conditions, according to the Sudan News Agency report carried by AllAfrica. The meeting took place amid continuing conflict in Sudan and growing concern about its effects on civilians and neighboring states.
In a Facebook post cited in the report, Minawi said he briefed Kiir on what he described as serious abuses against civilians and the danger posed by efforts to displace communities in Darfur and Kordofan. He argued that the war is deepening Sudan’s fragmentation and undermining its unity and sovereignty. Minawi also urged Kiir to take a more active role in supporting peace efforts and preventing any move toward partition.
The two officials also discussed the situation of Sudanese residents in South Sudan and the challenges they face. Kiir said his government would help address those concerns and facilitate the return of Sudanese who want to go home, while protecting their dignity. He also said instability in Sudan has direct consequences for South Sudan, especially along their shared border.
Minawi called for South Sudan to be treated as an important partner in any Sudanese-led peace process, citing the countries’ close historical and security ties. The article presents Juba as a possible venue for supporting dialogue and completing outstanding parts of the Juba Peace Agreement, though it does not report any formal new agreement from the meeting.
