Sudan: Industry Minister Discusses Reconstruction and Investment Projects With Armed Forces Social Security Fund

Sudan’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Mohasin Ali Yagoub, met with General Khalid Al-Shami, the secretary-general of the Armed Forces Social Security Fund, to discuss possible joint projects focused on reconstruction, self-sufficiency initiatives and export support. According to the Sudan News Agency report carried by AllAfrica, the meeting took place at the ministry’s headquarters in Khartoum on Sunday.

The discussion centered on how the fund could contribute financially and technically to strategic industrial projects. One of the main ideas was a partnership with the Sudanese Sugar Company to help finance and modernize sugar factories. The plan would start with agricultural financing for the Assalaya and New Halfa sugar factories for the current production season.

The parties also discussed assessing damage at other sugar factories so they can be reopened under a proposed timeline and implementation plan. Beyond sugar, the partnership is expected to explore products linked to the sector, as well as agro-processing and livestock production, in order to add value and diversify income sources.

General Al-Shami said the fund supports economically viable national projects, including work in sugar, pharmaceuticals, strategic industries and free zone development. The proposal reflects wider efforts in Sudan to rebuild productive capacity and strengthen essential industries amid ongoing economic pressures.
