Sudan: Health Minister - Arrangements Underway to Establish Specialized Heart and Oncology Centers in White Nile

Sudan’s Federal Ministry of Health and White Nile state health authorities held a joint meeting on Sunday to review the condition of health services in White Nile State and discuss priorities for the sector. The meeting was chaired by Federal Health Minister Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim and White Nile State Health and Social Development Minister Dr. Al-Zain Saad Adam, with officials from federal and state health directorates, the health insurance fund’s White Nile branch, and police health services also attending, according to the Sudan News Agency report carried by AllAfrica.

The ministers said the state’s health system has made progress in stability, including emergency care, service continuity and medicine availability. The federal minister said work is being arranged to open specialized cardiac and oncology centers, along with several other facilities, including Habani Hospital for Women and Obstetrics in Al-Duweim, Al-Jabalain Hospital, a children’s hospital in Rabak, and medical supply warehouses.

The discussion also highlighted continuing pressure on the system from the presence of refugees and internally displaced people in the state. White Nile officials said further needs include stronger specialized services, CT scanning in government hospitals, and expanded capacity in mental health, neurosurgery, intensive care, orthopaedics, ear, nose and throat surgery, and emergency care.

The report said the ministry is encouraging cooperation with state authorities, health partners and the private sector to attract specialists, train staff in rare fields and strengthen service delivery. More broadly, the developments reflect efforts by Sudanese health authorities to restore and expand care in a state facing sustained humanitarian and medical demand.
