Sudan: Air Strike Kills At Least 24 Civilians in North Kordofan, RSF Attack Leaves Nine Dead

AllAfrica, republishing a Dabanga report from Port Sudan, said at least 24 civilians were killed in an air strike on Sharshar, a village west of Bara in North Kordofan, on Wednesday. The report cited local witnesses and rights groups who said most of the dead were women and children. Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that Sudanese Armed Forces aircraft struck a populated area, while the Advocating for Darfur Victims organisation blamed the SAF and called for UN Security Council action to protect civilians.

The report said the RSF-aligned Sudan Founding Alliance, known as Tasees, also denounced the bombing and said children, women and elderly people were among those killed. Its spokesperson, Ahmed Tagad Lisan, called for an independent international investigation. Dabanga also reported that the Dar Hammar Emergency Room said SAF air strikes targeted RSF positions in El Jamama, El Mazroub, Sharshar and Abu Hadid, and claimed RSF vehicles and fighters were hit. Radio Dabanga said it could not independently verify that claim.

In a separate incident hours later, the Sudan Doctors Network said an attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces on El Jamama, also west of Bara, killed nine civilians, including two women, and wounded 14 others. The network accused RSF fighters of attacking after alleging residents backed the SAF, then looting the market, health centre and private property, forcing many families to leave.

Emergency Lawyers also accused the RSF of targeting civilians, looting homes and damaging El Jamama market, describing the incident as a grave breach of humanitarian law. The reported attacks underline the continued civilian toll of Sudan’s war, in which both military operations and paramilitary raids have repeatedly displaced communities and damaged essential services.
