What the report says

Andrew Ssekibejja emerged as the overnight leader after the opening round of the Stanbic Entebbe Open in Entebbe, Uganda, according to The Independent Uganda. Playing at the par-71 Entebbe course, the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort Club member finished on 3-under 68, helped by seven birdies and several bogeys as he navigated a rain-affected day.

The event started after a one-hour rain delay, and Ssekibejja said after the round that his putting was working well and that he hoped to keep that form going. He also noted concern that the weather could have altered the course conditions, underscoring how the day’s play was shaped by the rain.

Behind him, home golfer Herman Mutebi stood second on 2-under 69, while Davis Kato and Bruhan Matovu were tied for third on 1-under 70. Canary Kabise, Abraham Ainamani and Kenya’s Daniel Nduva were among those tied on 1-over 72, and defending champion David Kamulindwa was reported tied for 11th on 3-over 74.

The Independent Uganda said the five-day tournament carries a prize purse of 36 million shillings and is sponsored by Stanbic Bank Uganda. The publication also reported that Rwanda’s Celestin Nsazuwera and Uganda Pro Open champion Ronald Rugumayo did not take part, while elite amateurs were scheduled to begin play the following day.
