Spiro joins Rwenzori Marathon to promote green mobility

What the report says
Spiro Uganda has partnered with the Rwenzori Marathon as the event’s official Green Mobility Partner for 2026, according to The Independent Uganda. The agreement was unveiled in Kampala through a Green Boda Boda ride that brought together more than 200 riders on Spiro electric motorcycles to promote cleaner transport and environmental sustainability.
The company said its electric motorcycles will be used during the marathon to help move key officials, including journalists and medical staff, while also showcasing electric mobility as an alternative to fossil-fuel-powered transport. The partnership ties the sporting event to wider messages about public health, cleaner air and reduced pollution in communities around the Rwenzori region.
Amos Wekesa, co-founder of the Rwenzori Marathon, said the collaboration reflects the connection between personal health and environmental health. Bruce Mucunguzi, Spiro Uganda’s deputy country head, said the company wanted to highlight the role electric mobility can play in building healthier communities and protecting natural surroundings.
The report places the move in the context of rising transport demand in Uganda’s urban areas and growing interest in sustainable mobility. Spiro says it has deployed more than 30,000 electric motorcycles in the country and is expanding battery-swapping infrastructure, while the marathon organisers see the partnership as adding an environmental dimension to an event linked to tourism, sport and the Kasese area.
