What the report says

The Pearl of Africa Golf Series has opened in Entebbe, Uganda, with the event receiving an international lift from the arrival of 21 professionals from South Africa’s Sunshine Tour, according to The Independent Uganda. The tournament is being held as a World Ranking event, with the first day featuring Uganda’s top amateurs against the visiting professionals in a bid for ranking points.

The report says South African-based Ronald Rugumayo, fresh from winning the Uganda Open and MTN Pro Tee last week, is expected to lead the Ugandan challenge. Other local professionals named as players to watch include Grace Kasango, Deo Akope, Rodel Gaita, David Kamulindwa, Abraham Ainamani, Vincent Byamukama, Marvin Kibirige, Silver Opio and Phillip Kasozi.

The field also includes golfers from several countries across Africa and beyond, including Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Nigeria, England, South Africa, Botswana and Eswatini. The tournament’s prize fund is reported at Sh78 million.

The Independent Uganda said the event is sponsored by Exim Bank, Vivo Energy and the Uganda Tourism Board. More generally, Sunshine Tour players often appear in co-sanctioned or developmental events in the region, but the article specifically highlights Entebbe as the venue and the Pearl of Africa series as the central platform for international competition.
