Police in Gauteng say they have made a breakthrough in the investigation into the killings of two South African Police Service Anti-Gang Unit members and two civilian women in Germiston. Police said a weekend tracing operation led to a person of interest being taken in for questioning. The operation involved a multi-disciplinary team that included the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, PRASA, Gauteng Crime Intelligence, the Provincial Tracking Team, the Tactical Response Team and the Anti-Gang Unit. The police statement described the inquiry as focused on suspects allegedly involved in the murders of Constables Tlomatsana and Sibeko, along with the two civilian women.

Acting National Head Lieutenant General Sphesihle Nkosi offered condolences to the families and colleagues of the slain officers and said the recovery of the firearms showed determination to pursue those targeting police and communities. Police also said the person questioned was a known gangster who was out on bail and had other pending court matters, including murder, attempted murder and illegal firearm possession cases. The investigation remains active, and police said more arrests are possible. The case is significant because it highlights both the killing of officers and civilians and ongoing efforts to disrupt armed criminal networks in Gauteng.
