South Africa: Generations Moves Timeslot for the First Time in 32 Years

Under the revised schedule, Skeem Saam will continue airing at 7.30pm, Uzalo will take the 8pm slot, and Generations: The Legacy will follow at 8.30pm. The change effectively swaps the positions of Uzalo and Generations: The Legacy in SABC1’s evening block while keeping both shows in prime time.

Scrolla reported that SABC1 channel head Ofentse Thinane framed the move as a schedule adjustment rather than a downgrade for either drama, saying both remain central to the broadcaster’s evening offering. The broadcaster did not provide a detailed reason for the swap, beyond describing it as a refresh of the schedule.

The move matters because Generations: The Legacy is one of SABC1’s most established soap operas and has held a prominent 8pm position for decades. Scrolla also reported that Uzalo remains South Africa’s most-watched television programme, while Generations: The Legacy continues to perform strongly in the channel’s drama line-up. SABC said more programming changes would be announced on 27 July, when the new schedule begins.
