Somalia’s elite Danab Special Forces carried out a planned raid targeting suspected Al-Shabaab positions in villages near Basro, a locality between Somalia’s Lower Shabelle and Middle Shabelle regions, according to military officials quoted by Shabelle on Tuesday. The operation was led by the 164th Unit of the 16th Danab Brigade.

Military commanders said the troops focused on locations believed to be used by the militant group as hideouts and staging areas. As part of the mission, forces also conducted security sweeps in surrounding areas. The aim, officials said, was to disrupt Al-Shabaab’s movement and reinforce security in territory under government control.
