What the report says

As.com reported that the Social Security Administration was scheduled to complete its July 2026 Social Security payment cycle on Wednesday, July 22. According to the report, that date was the fourth Wednesday of the month, meaning payments were due for beneficiaries whose birthdays fall from the 21st through the 31st of any month.

The outlet said many of the roughly 71 million Social Security beneficiaries in the United States receive monthly payments on one of three Wednesdays, with the date determined by the beneficiary’s birthday. For July 2026, As.com listed payments for people born from the 1st to the 10th as July 8, those born from the 11th to the 20th as July 15, and those born from the 21st to the 31st as July 22. It also noted that for benefits claimed on another person’s work record, the SSA uses that person’s birth date.

As.com also described exceptions to the Wednesday schedule. Beneficiaries who started receiving Social Security before May 1997, and those who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income, were paid on July 2. The report said those groups are normally paid on the third day of the month, but the July 2026 payment was moved earlier because July 3 was a federal holiday. SSI for July was sent on July 1.

The report cited SSA-published average monthly benefits of $2,029.92 for retirement, $1,496.16 for disability and $1,631.39 for survivors. It said payments can be received through direct deposit or loaded onto a Direct Express debit card.
