Shell, MTN MoMo Offer Motorists 20% Fuel 'Happy Hour' Cashback

What the report says
Vivo Energy Uganda and MTN have introduced a fuel promotion for motorists using MTN Mobile Money at participating Shell service stations in Uganda. Under the offer, customers who pay for qualifying fuel purchases between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays will receive 20% cashback, according to the companies. The campaign is branded “Fuel Happy Hour.”
The promotion was launched on Monday at Shell Kitetika service station in Kampala. Vivo Energy Uganda said the initiative is meant to reward customers and encourage the use of digital payments, while also helping motorists manage transport costs amid wider economic pressures. The deal applies at Shell stations across the country where MTN MoMo payments are accepted and is subject to the campaign’s terms and conditions.
Vivo Energy Uganda, which markets Shell-branded fuels and lubricants in the country, said the partnership is aimed at improving customer experience. Retail Manager Alex Tusingwire said the company wanted to create value for customers and make fuel purchases more rewarding for people who rely on daily mobility. MTN MoMo Chief Commercial Officer Keith Tukei said the collaboration is intended to make digital payments part of everyday transactions by adding convenience and value to routine spending.
More broadly, the move reflects a growing trend in which fuel retailers and mobile money providers team up to promote cashless payments and customer incentives. 256 Newsroom notes this as contextual background rather than a separate claim from the publisher’s report.
