What the report says

The National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) and Trade for Jobs Uganda have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at speeding up the uptake of dairy innovations and creating more jobs across Uganda’s dairy value chain. Nile Post reported that the agreement was sealed on November 2, 2026, at NARO’s National Livestock Resources Research Institute in Nakyesasa, Wakiso District.

According to the report, the partnership is designed to close the gap between agricultural research and commercial use by linking farmers, processors, cooperatives, milk collection centres and agro-dealers with technologies that can raise productivity, improve market access and support income growth. NARO Director General Dr. Yona Baguma said the goal is to move research outputs beyond laboratories and into practical, income-generating use. He cited technologies already developed by NARO, including an anti-tick vaccine that has been rolled out.

Trade for Jobs Uganda, a joint initiative of the International Labour Organisation and the International Trade Centre, said the collaboration combines research expertise with market development and employment-focused support. Under the deal, the two organisations will work on technology transfer, adoption and commercialisation, while also strengthening data sharing, stakeholder engagement and business models that can help private-sector players scale innovations.

The article places the partnership against the backdrop of a growing dairy industry. It notes that Uganda’s milk production and export earnings have risen in recent years, but that limited access to technology and difficulties commercialising research still constrain the sector’s full potential.
